Statement by the Town Council about Market House provision on 27th December 2021

The Council apologises to Castle Cary residents for the contradiction between its
statement of 14th December last that ‘it does not offer facilities directly or indirectly to hunt
meetings’ and the use of the Market House by Cary2000 to offer refreshments to Boxing
Day hunt members and others. The Council did not intend to offer such facilities but did
agree to let the Market House over the Christmas period to applications on their merits and
subject to availability. The letting to Cary2000 was a serious error and the Council intends
that any such letting will not happen again.

Opening of Millbrook Hub Community Larder 29th June

Castle Cary Town Council is delighted to announce the opening of our Community Larder at Millbrook Hub by the car park, in collaboration with Churches Together and Cary Cares.  This is a food sharing venture which means people of the community can both bring surplus larder food and produce for the advantage of others, and take home others’ tasty items for themselves.  It is totally free, staffed by volunteers and supported by local businesses.

We see this as having both environmental benefits -reducing food waste – and community benefits –   helping top up pantries and sharing good harvests.

Open Tuesdays and Thursdays 8.30am – 10.30am and 3.00pm to 5.00pm. Saturdays 10.00am to 12 midday.
