Castle Cary Library Website

Located in the centre of Castle Cary, just behind the Market House, Castle Cary Community Library is run in partnership with Somerset County Council. It is funded by the County Council, Castle Cary Town Council, Ansford and nearby Parish Councils and staffed and run by volunteers.  Membership is free, and you can do much more than just borrow books. Whilst our library is small, you will have access to all the books which are available in the libraries in the region, including Bath and Bristol. You will also have access to extensive online resources 

Onsite Facilities

Library  : Our volunteers are here to help you find the book or the information which you need. They can support you with any of the facilities mentioned below and are a very welcoming bunch! 

Books: As well as the books available to browse and borrow onsite, you can order books in from other libraries (including libraries such as Bath, Bristol, UWE etc.) and order other formats such as braille, large text and talking books

Computer access: all members of the library have access to the up to date computer and printer on site.

Free Wi-fi: you can use your membership to log onto the libraries wi-fi on any device you own.

Books on prescription: Reading Well Books on Prescription helps you to understand and manage your health and well-being using self-help reading. There are currently two book lists available for common mental health conditions and dementia. For more information click here

What’s on?

Book Groups: A variety of book groups run in Castle Cary and are support by the library. To find a book group to suit you, please visit the library and talk to one of the librarians.

Baby and Toddler Story & Rhyme Time: 0-3 year olds and their carers on Fridays from 10.30 am during term time.

How to Join

Pop into the library with proof of your address and the librarian will give you a form to activate your membership. Acceptable forms of proof include:

  • Drivers licence
  • Utility bill less than 3months old
  • Council tax bill
  • Family Allowance book
  • Pension book
  • Bank statement
