Castle Cary Town Council: two Town Councillor Vacancies

Are you interested in your local community and how it is developed in the future?
Do you have concerns about what happens in your community and the surrounding area?
Are you interested in making sure that the best possible services are available and maintained for residents?

You can probably answer “yes” to at least one of these questions but have you ever considered becoming a Town Councillor?

All that is required is genuine desire to help the community and a commitment to attend Town Council meetings. Good quality training is available. The Town Council is made up of a total of 13 Town Councillors. It serves an estimated population of 2000 people. Full Council Meetings are held every month on the third Monday evening at 7.00pm at the Market House with other Committee meetings held at 6.30pm. The Town Council is responsible for the upkeep and maintenance of the Market House and The Shambles, the Donald Pither Memorial Ground and Pavillion, the children’s play area, the Town’s Cemetery and chapel along with other smaller assets including the Millbrook Car Park toilet facilities and The Roundhouse. It also has to make sure that spending is kept within the agreed precept limit.

It is very important that the Town Council has its full complement of Town Councillors so that any decisions are made in a democratic way. The Town Council represents the opinions of residents in discussions with the district and county councils, especially decisions that concern the future development of the town.
