ENTER INTO THE SPIRIT OF A VICTORIAN CHRISTMAS!
Thursday 3 December Victorian Christmas Evening
We have lots of excitement, fun and festivities in store for you this year at our Victorian Christmas Evening. Everyone is encouraged to wear Victorian costume, so find a top hat or a bonnet (see how to make a simple mobcap HERE) and shawl and come along for a great evening to help raise funds for the Castle Cary Market House Regeneration Fund. For ideas for a complete outfit click HERE.
Queen Victoria and Mr Isambard Kingdom Brunel will arrive to switch on the Christmas lights and open the event at 5.30pm.
Local shops will also be dressed for the evening and stay open up to 8.30pm selling seasonal fare and gifts for all the family. There is also an opportunity to win £500 in the Grand Draw and other prizes, as well as gifts at our tombola, all donated by local traders.
Carol singers, the Langport Mummers, jugglers, a stilt-walker, fire-spinners and a traditional barrel organ will entertain as stallholders and street peddlers ply you with festive goodies such as mince pies, mulled wine, roast chestnuts and Victorian-style sweets (not forgetting packets of reindeer food to put out with the stockings on Christmas Eve). Watch out for the dancing bear! For those wanting a festive feast there will be hot pies and a hog roast to enjoy throughout the evening.
We have lots for children – stories at the bookshop, Punch and Judy, Spot the Window and the Best Dressed Victorian Child (judged by Mr Brunel at 6.45 outside the Market House) competitions. There will be rides on the cup and saucer roundabout and a chance to join in traditional Victorian games - and of course, Father Christmas is the highlight of the evening!
