The Castle Cary & Ansford Carnival takes place annually in October - this year on the evening of the third Saturday. A Childrens' Carnival takes place on the afternoon of the preceding Saturday, when children process through Castle Cary town centre. In 2007, our Carnival celebrated its 30th Anniversary with a DVD. Our Carnival is run entirely by volunteers, with no financial assistance from town or district councils. It is part of the Wessex Grand Prix Circuit, which celebrated its 21st Anniversay in 2007. The Wessex circuit comprises nine towns from Somerset, Dorset and Wiltshire. Entrants from these towns visit and compete against each other throughout the Autumn - our carnival is sixth in sequence in this circuit. Popularly known as "Somerset's Family Carnival", this event includes marching bands, majorettes and - occasionally - Morris Dancers. Of course, it also includes many local entries: chief among these are the Cary Cygnet Majorettes and the Britannia and Cary Comedians carnival clubs. Local entries do not have to compete against Wessex circuit entrants, so local folk can easily register and take part in our procession. And why not start planning your entry for 2009?!! This year’s Carnival Programme featured three competitions: You can see last year’s Carnival results by clicking here. The Carnival Society publishes its accounts annually, in its Carnival Programme. You can also see them by clicking here. Each year, the Carnival Society raises around £3,000 to donate to local deserving causes. This year’s Carnival Royals were elected at our annual Children’s Disco on 10 July. The Children’s Carnival Prince and Princess are James Heal and Stephanie Lewis. The Illuminated Carnival’s Princess is Emily Mitchell, supported by her Attendants Emily Francis and Daisy Cryer.
